Oefeningen in de scenografie (atelier), 2023

An important subject within Jivan van der Ende’s work is the way we look at bodies and the social and political implications of clothing (or the lack thereof). During Playground van der Ende will show a performance that is part of her ongoing project Muscular Growth (and me), based on the artist’s personal studies on the topic of the extreme muscular body within patriarchal society. Since 2021 she collaborates with bodybuilders to create a dialogue between them and her queer self, both practices and identities. With this project she researches how capitalist society and its institutions view the body as a commodity and project fear and oppressive sexism.

In this video work Jivan van der Ende explores the question ‘Could you do a bodybuilding work out in the studio of an artist?’ The artist interviews bodybuilding champion Jurgen van Wesemael.
